Hi I have been given an old(ish) Compaq Presario C700 Notebook PC by a friend and whilst it appears to connect to my Belkin wireless router it cannot connect to the internet. My wireless network is located by the notebook but there is a red X between the 'unidentified network' and the internet symbol. I have tried to connect before and after reformatting the notebook but to no avail.
I have looked at a number of threads here and tried a few things suggested for other people with a similar issue but nothing works. I have restarted the router numerous times as well but still no luck.
The PC I am using to post this is connected via the same router and is working fine so what am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also not sure how to network the notebook and this PC as well. After 'reformatting the notebook' did you install Windows? If so, did you install the chipset and networking drivers? And, if so, please show. Open a (black) Command Prompt window: Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.
Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL. Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here.
If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access. Yes, when you reimage using the Recovery partition all (initial) drivers should be in place. It's still a good idea IMO to get any updated drivers from the PC manufacturer's web site in addition to the updates to Windows. However, your problem is likely a little more complex. The following was put together mostly by etaf with a little help from me. Wireless/ internet connection issue with Compaq presario Hello again, Info: Belkin Router: Model: Basic Wireless Router Model Number: F7D1301 v1 PC: Acer Aspire Z5610 Desktop Computer 64 bit operating system Operating System Windows7 home premium service pack 1 Not sure how to logon to the router FYI, looked in device manager on my PC and cannot see wireless adaptor, also not sure how to update drivcers without internet access on the laptop.
The signal generated at the VCO is buffer-amplified at 3-3-1 GENERAL (PLL UNIT) Q2001 or Q2002. Service manual laptop.
Can I do that using my PC and removable hard drive? Thanks again, Terry. Didn't see it mentioned earlier, but have you tried connecting the Compaq C700 using ethernet?
Would make downloading drivers and uploading information easier. Also, do you know when/if the wireless card was replaced? Reason I ask is that my daughter has a C700 and all Compaq has listed for OEM wireless is Intel Pro/Wireless and Broadcom drivers. The Atheros 5007 was not an OEM option and had to have been installed after the computer was purchased and the drivers for it would not be in the Recovery Partition which is made when the OS is first installed.
